Post-op Day 5

Reagan remains stable.  Her chest is still open.  They were not able to close her over the weekend.  They were aiming for today but still not ready.  She has drained off alot of fluids (she's starting to look like a skeleton),

but the surgery team wants her LAP (left atrial pressures) to be lower before closing her chest.  This is really the only thing preventing chest closure. With each day with an open chest, the chance of infection rises so PLEASE pray specifically that her LA pressures will come down to single digits before tomorrow so she can get her chest closed.  Also, we have had huge issues trying to keep her sedated.  She has been waking up several times a day and is on really big doses of sedation meds but it's like water to Reagan because she's had it so much in her life.  Please pray they can sedate her adequately so we do not have to watch her suffering.  It is so hard to see your baby with an open chest, breathing and chest tubes in and trying to sit herself up in the bed all while real tears are coming from her eyes.  One time yesterday when she "awoke" she reached for her breathing tube which was extremely scary.  We are thankful for her fighting spirit but would rather she rests a little bit and save that energy for once her chest and breathing tube come out!! (HA)
Thank you all again for everything!!

  1. Oh, poor sweet Reagan! Bailey was similar - fighting the vent and very hard to sedate. It brought tears to my eyes to think of Reagan's tears as she struggles against the sedation. As you said, that fighting spirit serves her well, but it is so hard to see them suffering.

Hopefully the LA pressures will be down very soon and they can close her chest and move on to extubation ASAP so you can hold your sweet girl again and work on getting the smile back.

    Thanks for all the updates!

    Love,
    Heathr, Tim, Bailey & Libby

  3. I have caught myself up on all you've been going through with this surgery by reading this blog this evening. I do not think words can express what I am feeling after taking all of this in...thank you for your updates and for letting God's promises shine through you in deeply scary times. I will keep praying (and the rest of the Temple clinic will as well)and add the specifics about the LAPs and sedation.

"....But I the Lord will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them. I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs...so that people may see and know, may consider and understand, that the hand of the Lord has done this...."Isaiah 41:17-20.

"If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, "Move from here to there" and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. Matthew 17:20-21.

Prayers up for all of you!

  4. You are so sweet to update regularly, so that we will know how to pray for Reagan and for you and Rod and Nolan. We will be praying for good LAP's, no infection, peaceful rest and for Reagan's chest to be closed SOON.
My nieces, Sarah and Ella Grace Berg know Nolan from KP and wanted me to let you know that their family prays for Nolan and his "pwecious little sistew Weagan" every night and every morning. (EG doesn't say "r's") They said to tell Nolan that everyone at school misses him. Love to all of you.

  8. So thinking of Reagan and the five of you there by her side. I'd love to visit today and am so hopeful her LATs come down so that they can stitch her up.

    Thinking of you!
